Vince Vaughn and Jon Favreau combine creative comic forces again for Couples Retreat. The comedy that is also quite romantic sports an all-star cast including Sex and the City star Kristin Davis and Kristen Bell.

Malin and Vince do Bora Bora in Couples RetreatSheKnows covers Couples Retreat as no one else in Hollywood. In the first of our series on Couples Retreat, we sit down with on screen couple, Vince Vaughn and Malin Akerman.

Next week, look for our chats with Jason Bateman and Kristen Bell as well as the SheKnows film review!

Couples comedy

SheKnows: Filming in Bora Bora must have been so difficult. Seriously, I heard getting equipment there was a real challenge.

Vince Vaughn: You can't go to a place like Bora Bora and complain about it afterwards because it's kind of only Uptown problems, you know what I mean? Bunch of Hollywood types saying, 'it was so tough to get anything shipped there. Poor you.' Meanwhile, you're jumping out of your villa onto the ocean. The place is beautiful, it really is.

Malin Akerman: Nobody going to believe it's real. That is how beautiful it is. When I first got here, I actually got into my room and had a little bit of a cry. It was so beautiful. I've never seen anything that beautiful. It's ridiculous that our jobs take us to places like this, it's beyond beautiful. It really is paradise.

SheKnows: There are numerous hilarious moments, but the first that comes to mind is the yoga scene with the yoga guy. Where on earth did that come from Vince?

Vince Vaughn: I went to a Yoga class once and everyone's there acting like this is normal and nobody has a problem with this gentleman that was dry humping these girls -- I don't know how else to say it to be nice. He was holding their necks kind of weird. And they were all listening and making sure they were doing it well. I felt like I was in the Twilight Zone, so I kind of thought that would be a funny scene to put in a movie someday. I finally got to do it with this one. I think anyone's who's ventured into this world of spiritual tranquility has also experienced the creepy yoga guy.

Vince conquers his fear of sharks

SheKnows: Did you have any pre-filming fear of sharks? You spend a little bit of time in the water with a few. Were they real?

Jason Bateman and Vince Vaughn battle sharks...seriously!

Vince Vaughn: We did do the scene with real sharks. And growing up the Midwest, a lake is a nice time for me, the ocean is a mystical place that I don't belong. I've always that way. I remember seeing Jaws when I was young, like a lot of kids, I was scared going in the swimming pool . I know there's water and there's this thing that eats people. Salt water, regular water, I'm not taking any chances. For me, it was a big deal to get in the water with the sharks. But I got comfortable doing it. I'm glad that I did it, but it's not something I would seek out all the time.

SheKnows: Although the film is hysterical, the storyline carries it. Is it safe to say it's a comedy with heart?

Vince Vaughn: The fun of this movie is we take those regular situations that everyone deals with and we find a fun environment to play those circumstances out in a comedic way. I think the movie has some real hope and optimism to it in a really smart way which is one of the great things about the film.

SheKnows: Malin, with so many comic giants on that island, how did you ever get a word in without falling over in laughter?

Malin Akerman: I'm such a giggler and being around so funny people, it's tough. It's really tough. But, I'm trying to keep my act together because it's a lot of people and it's long hours and of course when you start giggling, it doesn't stop. Then, people don't find it as funny as you for some reason. They're like, 'we just want to get this movie made.'

Couples Retreat stars Jason Bateman and Kristen Bell portray a couple heading to therapy in paradise to save their marriage. In real life, Bateman and Bell could double as an old married couple with the way they bounce comic energy off each other.

Bell and Bateman sat down to discuss their latest film, the fall's best comedy . The comic duo chronicle Couples Retreat for SheKnows.

Jason Bateman and Kristen BellBateman & Bell: showbiz vets

SheKnows: Both of you began in this business at a young age. Each of you are coming up on three decades, what have you taken away from your career thus far?

Jason Bateman: Yeah…I guess the thing I enjoy about being able to act every year is that my acting changes every year. I'll look at something that I did even five years ago, 10 years ago, and you can see how differently you would have played it if you had done it now. Hopefully, you become better, usually it is a little bit more subtle as you get older. Just because we all change as we get older. We get it a little bit more. We don't' need to hammer it as much. Maybe in 10 years from now, I'll be a better actor. And in 20 years, I'll be an even better actor. But, we're all crossing our fingers.

Kristen Bell laughs.

Bateman breaks out

SheKnows: Your character Jason is a little uptight. The bit about the PowerPoint presentations is captured perfectly. What do you find so appealing about playing a straight guy who is inherently comic?

Jason Bateman: There's nothing funny about a guy is relaxed and let everything roll off his back. So, discomfort and embarrassment and humiliation is funny. So if you're character is halfway there, it makes your job a little bit easier. Don't have to act as hard.

SheKnows: Are you a PowerPoint fan to break down life's nuances?

Jason Bateman: I haven't gone that far, but I have a tendency to be long-winded and overly…

Kristen Bell pretends to snore…

Jason Bateman: Kristen, Kristen, Kristen! …and overly specifically with my case sometimes. I guess that's the verbal equivalent of PowerPoint.

SheKnows: Whether Sarah Marshall or this film, there are certain parallels in your characters Kristen in that they are at the center of the comedy, yet there is heartbreak and pain. …

Kristen Bell: I think you really don't see how extreme their situation is, or how much it hurts them until three-fourths of the way through the movie when they have it out on the beach. It's a heartbreaking situation in and of itself and I think you can understand how a woman who is barely 30 and wants to conceive. That's very difficult news and how she might conceal that for perhaps three-fourths of a movie. And then, finally let it out. Their problem, although it might not be the most comedic part of the movie, is still very grounded and real. Their infertility is not meant to be funny. But….

SheKnows: Yeah, there are people out there who have had difficulty conceiving…

Jason Bateman: It's Chernobyl…mostly.

Couples Retreat comic secrets

SheKnows: It comes down to taking the ordinary and making it extraordinary funny.

Vaughn goes at it in Couples Retreat as if his marriage depends on it

Kristen Bell: I think so -- otherwise it would just be a silly spectacle. You want something that grabs you. You want a reason to pay attention. You would just, like Jason says, you want characters that are semi-realistic, but just a little bit heightened. Because, there's nothing funny about people that have everything…

Jason Bateman:…under control.

Kristen Bell: Under control, right. So you take something very real, like a couple having an issue and you make them very anal for comedic affect.

SheKnows: Well, in Couples Retreat, I think it works...in that sense, did you know Jason prior to filming this movie?

Kristen Bell: Unfortunately, yes.

Paradise?Jason Bateman: We worked it all out, though.

Kristen Bell: Hmm…

Jason Bateman: We worked it out.

SheKnows: Sure, it sounds like it…

Kristen Bell: I had only known him for a few months prior to this film and not…

Jason Bateman: It was a fun start, wasn't it?

Kristen Bell: Well…don't touch me.

Jason Bateman: Oh, yeah….

Kristen Bell: I was lucky enough to be invited to Jason's house one night for game night.

Jason Bateman: This is before that…

Kristen Bell: I told you before I don't remember and I don't remember anything.

Jason Bateman: There's a very hot kiss at the end of Sarah Marshall

Kristen Bell: Sorry, every time I forget it.

Jason Bateman: She forgets it…

Swimming with the sharks in Bora Bora

SheKnows: That could be construed as an insult Jason…

Kristen Bell: I think it was so much, so hot and heavy, it was like nothing I've ever experienced…

Jason Bateman: But, you and Dax made it through that so…

Kristen Bell: We did, and he's very intimidated, to date, about that on camera kiss that we shared. At the end of Sarah Marshall, Jason Bateman…it's Bateman, right?

Jason Bateman: Yup.

SheKnows:

Kristen Bell: played my partner in crime in Sarah Marshall's new show, Animal Instincts.

SheKnows: Oh, my God, that's right.

Kristen Bell: We did. We shared a lip lock in that.

Couples Retreat cast takes a 'vacation'

Jason Bateman: They weren't really locked, were they?

Jason Bateman: You ate my mouth.

Kristen Bell: You wish!

SheKnows: Yet knowing him, professionally, you had to be thrilled at the comic possibilities?

Kristen Bell: In all honestly, having known him a little bit before plug your ears, I was very excited at the possibility of being in this movie and him and I, I think he's a pretty decent actor -- and alright comedian. I was excited.

Jason Bateman: That's a net compliment.

Laughing in paradise

SheKnows: We talked to Vince and Malin about the Yoga scene, how did you all film that without it taking months because of uncontrollable laughter?

Jason Bateman: It wasn't just that scene. It was all the way through the movie.

Kristen Bell: It was…

Jason Bateman: It was tons of wasted money and film all over this movie. I'm interested to see what they put together on the DVD. There's a lot of laughing.

Kristen Bell: There was a lot of laughing…

Jason Bateman: And Carlos in the yoga thing, when he started, sort of, powerful whispering 'Boom…boom…' when he started doing his little moves, that wasn't written. You have to warn someone when you're about to do something like that.

SheKnows:

Kristen Bell: Yeah, you can't just boom them in a Speedo.

Jason Bateman: Yeah…you can't not be expected not to laugh at that -- unless you're soulless or deaf.

Kristen promptly falls over laughing…

SheKnows: Filming in Bora Bora had to be the most profound experience of your movie careers.

Kristen Bell: It was the biggest perk ever. I grew up in Detroit. I could not find Bora Bora on a map before we left. I have never dreamed that I would see a place like this. Getting off the boat, the beauty was paralyzing.

Jason Bateman: See, they didn't fly her out.

Kristen Bell: It was a six week boat ride

Jason Bateman: But, you got there on time.

SheKnows:

Kristen Bell: The beauty is…aseptically it's incomparable to anything I've ever seen before in a picture or real life. The water is bright blue, yet also crystal clear, 50-feet down

Jason Bateman: It's like we got a movie shot while we were on vacation.

Couples Retreat review

Couples Retreat is a difficult film to review. SheKnows truly enjoyed the Couples Retreat movie experience, but days later it is difficult to recall exactly what was so funny.

Couples Retreat: in theaters now

Retreat

That's OK. Films can have a shelf-life that is as limited to the time leaving the theater.

Couples Retreat, going in, audiences are keenly aware, is not going to be one of the best comedies of all-time. But, with that being said, Couples Retreat is as thoroughly enjoyable as the film's Bora Bora setting is beautiful.

Couples Retreat is written by Jon Favreau, Vince Vaughn and Dana Fox and in the hands of a former child star director, Peter Billingsley , the film is an enjoyable getaway. Vaughn and Favreau are a great team together onscreen and off screen their prose also oozes with chemistry.

After several interviews with the cast, we knew the script was solid, but improv was also used to capture the hilarity of four couples trying to find their way in their relationships.

Knowing that fact, SheKnows would love to see the shooting script to see where the film varied. Favreau wrote much of the script before passing it on to Vaughn as Favreau went to work directing Iron Man. There is no noticeable difference of who wrote what, but what is noticeable is how once settled into the island, Couples Retreat runs out of steam after an hour.

Comedy versus emotion

Many comedies -- numerous hit comedies, in fact -- are guilty of this charge. The issue with the comedy film is many should have run the credits at minute 60 before the storyline gets dragged out and the humor runs dry.

Couples Retreat does not fall on that sword too badly because of the strength of the characters as embodied by this top notch cast. As the comedy film heads into its third act, the emotional aspects of the character's relationships take over sending the funny -- for now -- beneath the surface. In Retreat, that 20 to 30 minute interlude of soul searching towards the end of the film does not feel painful as can in so many of this genre. But, it is still present.

Jason Bateman steals scenes from Vince Vaughn in Couples Retreat

Stealing the film from the usually comically classic Vaughn is Jason Bateman. His uptight suburban husband and father is at the root of the Couples Retreat. He and his wife, played with comic sass by Kristen Bell, have decided their friends need to join them on a Couples Retreat in paradise to help them save their marriage.

The others go along believing the journey to be jet skis and daiquiris. But, that would not be so funny, would it? Instead, each couple embarks on a discovery of "relationship building." It is during these sessions that the comedy truly shines in Couples Retreat. The clips in the trailers only scratch the surface of the fall-out-of-your-chair moments throughout.

One of our favorite French actors, Jean Reno, is perfectly cast as the "leader" of the island whose Zen-like approach to couples therapy in paradise is not for discussion. The rules are followed or you go home.

Vaughn and Favreau, in particular, use this barrier to their fun as a comic minefield.

The ladies have it in Couples Retreat, now in theaters

Couples ladies rule!

And the actresses are no slouches either. Bell, as mentioned, is cute in her comic way and Kristin Davis does a version of Charlotte from Sex and the City as Favreau's wife -- but it is the arrival of Malin Akerman as Vaughn's wife that sets her above the other talented actresses in Couples Retreat.

It takes a special performer to be able to handle the comic volley that comes from Vince Vaughn. Reese Witherspoon achieved that goal in Four Christmases and Akerman does the Oscar-winner one better in Couples Retreat.

In the end, audiences will leave Couples Retreat pleased. But, as many trips to paradise tend to do, as the days go by the memories of the trip will fade and all will be remembered is that is was fun.

The bottom line

Out of five stars:

Couples Retreat wins box office

A trip to the movies is always a chance for escapism, but a look at box office interest reveals just how badly we want to get away these days.

Last weekend, it was all about taking a trip to Zombieland, surviving the odd weather in Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs or going 3-D with the Toy Story double feature.

Couples Retreat has every reason to smile: they're number one

Those fantasies were still in the game this weekend, but were knocked down a peg by the disastrous vacation of Couples Retreat.

Reviews of the romantic comedy weren't inspiring, but the Vince Vaughn vehicle about a couple who takes a much needed getaway came in at number one this weekend, with $35,340,000 in sales.

Fans turned out for the likes of Jason Bateman, Jon Favreau, Faizon Love, Malin Akerman, Kristin Davis, Kristen Bel, and Jean Reno. And, with no other new releases to compete with, it even broke the Columbus Day opening weekend record -- previously held by Meet the Parents.

Zombieland, holding at a high second, is also looking to break records, but in a different category: highest-grossing zombie movie. If it can sustain its audience, it should beat out the Dawn of the Dead remake.

Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs starring Anna Faris continues to impress at number four, with $96,251,000 in under a month, while the Toy Story-Toy Story 2 dropped to fourth.

Internet activity pays off for Paranormal

Paranormal Activity, which promises scare-you-out-of-you-seat escapism, caught our attention last week by selling out midnight showings in a host of college towns. This weekend's wider release put the film in 160 theaters and bumped it into the top five, with ticket sales totaling $8,280,000 – that's on a $10,000 movie!

The faux documentary style horror flick, which is enjoying Blair Witch comparisons, has capitalized on Twitter and Facebook craze to build attention and is set to expand its release even further next week.

Meanwhile, Surrogates, The Invention of Lying, Whip It, Capitalism: A Love Story and Fame each dropped down a peg this week, while maintaining places in the bottom of the Top 10.

Of the small scale releases, An Education grossed $162,000 on four screens, A Serious Man grossed $447,000 on 21 screens and the Chris Rock's documentary Good Hair brought in $1.1 million on 186 screens.

Next week, box office numbers could see a shake up, with high expectations for Where the Wild Things Are and high hopes for The Stepfather and Law Abiding Citizen.

The Romantics inside scoop

$

Galt Niederhoffer is celebrating. Fresh from the premiere of her film, The Romantics, the party weary director caught up with us in an exclusive interview that adds priceless insight into one of the most modern films of 2010.

The Romantics stars Katie Holmes, Josh Duhamel, Malin Akerman, Elijah Wood, Adam Brody, Anna Paquin and Candice Bergen. As the writer and director behind The Romantics, Galt Niederhoffer shares insight into what it takes to make a modern Big Chill with a cast that any director would cherish.

SheKnows: Your cast is absolutely amazing. As not only the director behind the film, but as the person who crafted the words this cast is emitting, what were your first thoughts when they were all locked in?

Josh Duhamel and Katie Holmes in The Romantics

Galt Niederhoffer: [Laughs] Yeah, it was a dream team. It was a group of some of the most talented and interesting actors of their generation. It was a…I'm sorry, we had the premiere last night and I'm totally hung-over [laughs].

SheKnows: Well you deserve it!

Galt Niederhoffer: It was one of the best times of my life. The cast is an incredible group of people with talent, kindness and killer looks and we really had the time of our lives making the movie.

SheKnows: I'm sure it was hard work, but the shoot sure could have doubled for an adult summer camp. Where did you shoot and what was the shoot like?

Josh Duhamel and Anna Paquin in The Romantics

Galt Niederhoffer: It was a lot like a summer camp. Or, like a Kibbutz, where we all arrived and were immediately put to work. But, also, work in this business is also play. It was a bunch of people, roughly the same age, separated from families and spouses in that remote area, beautiful area. We quickly decided that we really like and trusted each other. It was a unique convergence of events in a finite amount of time. We just enjoyed the heck out of it.

SheKnows: It was so gorgeous. Where did you filmThe Romantics?

Galt Niederhoffer: On the North Fork of Long Island -- a beautiful place.

SheKnows: For you as the writer-director, what was the biggest challenge in bringing your own vision to life?

Galt Niederhoffer: I think the biggest challenge would be the endurance required of any production to staying focused and strong. To be at the center of an ensemble like this, there are a lot of people who need answers and attention and guidance. It requires a lot of mental energy and physical energy. It was a great challenge. It was fun.

SheKnows: You've got almost a matriarch of sorts in the cast with Candice Bergen. Talk about the joy of getting her to do your movie.

The heart of The Romantics: The wedding!

Galt Niederhoffer: Well, Candice is the original formidable woman. She just emits elegance incarnate. She really played that role in this group of people, this kind of very wise, experienced and generous kind of den mother.

SheKnows: The soundtrack is impeccable, as the writer-director, did you have a real specific say in the musical voice of the film?

Josh Duhamel and Katie Holmes

Galt Niederhoffer: Ah, thanks. That was a lot of hard work, but I'm a music fiend, this was kind of a dream where you get to make a mix tape for [laughs] a lot of people. We obsessively listened to hundreds of songs for every cue. The editor, Jacob Craigcoff, had a big role in helping to shape the musical tone of the movie. It was a lot of work and [laughs] careful scrutiny.

SheKnows: Where did the inspiration for The Romantics come from? Was there a group of friends, or did you know of a group of friends who were like The Romantics in this film? It seemed like a story that came right out of you.

Galt Niederhoffer: Not really, no. I've always loved A Midsummer Night's Dream. I always thought it would be interesting to do a modern version of that. This is structured a little bit like that play and literally when night falls, people kind of lose their roles and inhibitions. The marriage comedies have to end with the wedding. So, it was a chance to explore a bunch of characters going through a time in their life that I was going through at the time. It's also about looking back at youth with some distance -- hopefully, with a bit of nostalgia.

SheKnows: We kind of see a different side of Elijah Wood, talk about his performance and the role he chose to portray.

Galt Niederhoffer: Elijah is an awesome actor. He's incredibly skilled and funny and fluid. He can do comedy and drama and always with a smile. When you call cut, he's always entertaining the cast with a cool anecdote.

SheKnows: And Katie Holmes gives a layered performance to say the least, what most surprised you about Katie Holmes the actress?

Galt Niederhoffer: I was not surprised. Katie and I enjoyed a really rewarding partnership from beginning to end. She's a remarkably talented woman at so many things. She's a great businesswoman, an incredible designer, a fine actress, a good friend.

Malin Akerman professes love for Jennifer Aniston

Malin Akerman's movie with Jen Aniston is still in production, but she's already getting attention for working with Hollywood's hottest singleton. Malin Akerman is blowing up today after coming out about her girl crush on her Wanderlust co-star Aniston.

Malin Akerman

With some big movies under her belt,Malin Akerman has shared the screen with the likes of Ryan Reynolds, Ben Stiller and Vince Vaughn. She also just wrapped up shooting Judd Apatow's Wanderlust with Jennifer Aniston, Paul Rudd and Ray Liotta.

It's not, however, Akerman's successes that made her a top search on Google on November 19 -- it's her girl power support of Wanderlust co-star Jennifer Aniston.

"Jennifer is one of my favorite people now,"Akerman told People. "Not only is she an extraordinary actress, she is such a loving, genuine woman and fun. You want her to be your best friend. She's amazing."

"It's funny, because I kind of expected her to be amazing. I would have been more surprised if she hadn't been the great, down-to-earth girl that she is."

Malin also told the mag that the Wanderlust shoot was a "huge love fest" and made it clear she can't figure out why her cool co-star is single.

"Guys, get out there! Nab her!"Akerman instructed. "She is every guy's dream."

Gorgeous and funny Malin seems like quite the catch herself, but she's off the market. She's already been caught by her Italian musician hubby Roberto Zincone.

The Swedish born actress got into the biz after winningtheFord supermodel search of Canada at 17. After a bit of modeling, she got into acting, landing roles in 27 Dresses, Watchmen, The Brothers Solomon, The Heartbreak Kid, Couples Retreat and The Proposal. She's also got chops as a singer and performs with the band the Petalstones.

Having been on location in New York this year with Aniston and Rudd, it would seem Malin is playing a Manhattanite in Wanderlust, as opposed to one of the wild, counter-culture folks the duo meets on their road trip adventure. Wanderlust is set to hit theaters on October 7, 2011.

Carla Gugino is Elektra Luxx and as the character featured in the film of the same name, Gugino has taped a series of advice videos with the film’s director that supports the movie and also provides needed answers to "reader" submitted questions.

Carla Gugino

In Elektra Luxx, Carla Gugino plays a woman who has recently left the adult film industry and seeks to make a better life for herself. She immediately finds work as a sex education teacher at a local community college. It is in that premise that Gugino and Elektra Luxxwriter-director Sebastian Gutierrez found the idea for the video vignettes featuring Elektra Luxx answering questions about love and life that no one else is comfortable enough to handle.

We are proud to exclusively present the fourth in the Elektra Luxx video series, entitled Elektra Answers Everything. The entire series is available on the official Elektra Luxx YouTube page.

In our premiere episode of Elektra Answers Everything, check out Gugino in full character taking questions and giving her own unique take on the answers.

In the film Elektra Luxx, Gugino's character finds herself in the middle of a very complicated time in her life. She has just left "the industry" and while working as the sex ed teacher, she discovers she's pregnant with a late rock star's baby. Soon after, Elektra is drawn into some compromising positions at the request of an old friend in exchange for "lost" song lyrics from her deceased beau.

Elektra Luxx features an all-star cast including Gugino, Malin Akerman, Emmanuelle Chriqui, new Wonder Woman Adrianne Palicki, Timothy Olyphant and Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

Heidi Klum, Tim Gunn, Michael Kors and Nina Garcia are back for another round of high fashion challenges, eliminations and surprises, along with guest judges like Kim Kardashian, Christina Ricci, Zoe Saldana and Malin Akerman.

Heidi Klum strips down for Lifetime's Project Runway Season 9 poster

The new season of Project Runway starts with a bang Thursday, July 28, 2011. The show has upped the ante for season nine by bringing in 20 fresh designers who must duke it out to become one of the final 16 contenders.

Once they make the cut, however, there's no resting on any laurels. The new crew of design divas, devils and darlings are up at the crack of dawn to compete in "one of the toughest first challenges in the series' history," according to Lifetime.

With the premiere a month off, folks are tittering about Heidi Klum's sexy new Project Runway poster. "[Photographer] Robert Erdmann shot my Sports Illustrated swimsuit cover way back when, and he also shot this image," Klum told myLifetime.com. "He's great at making women feel confident and sexy. I love how this poster turned out and I love how Lifetime is pushing the envelope."

The Project Runway crew returns to New York City to find a designer who does his/her own envelope pushing. Over the course of the 90-minute episodes, contestants will again flub, amaze and cat fight their way to the catwalk in hopes of earning a chance to show their lines at New York Fashion Week at Lincoln Center.

The show's big winner will receive $100,000 from L'Oreal Paris to start his/her own line, a fashion spread in Marie Claire magazine, a $50,000 technology suite by HP and Intel, and the opportunity to design and sell an exclusive collection on Piperlime.com. The model paired with the winner of Project Runway will get to appear in the Marie Claire feature and receive $25,000 from L'Oreal Studio Secrets Professional.

Project Runway will kick off its ninth season Thursday, July 28, at 9 p.m. on Lifetime, but fans can get in on the fun now by following @projectrunway on Twitter and using the tag #projectrunway.

SPinOff UpdateS!

While Project Runway is set to heat up the summer, Lifetime also has two spinoffs in the works. The second Project Runway All-Stars still has no premiere date set but promises eight one-hour episodes that pit past fave contestants against each other. The brand new series Project Accessory doesn't have a run date either, but is just wrapping up casting in New York, Miami, Chicago and Los Angeles. Accessory artists will compete for a cash grand prize to help them launch their own fashion accessories business.

Stay tuned for more on the Project Runway spinoffs.

The priests have supernatural powers and are the only thing keeping the human race from complete annihilation. Priestess Maggie Q stands out with a subtle, yet powerful performance and amidst the death and destruction, Cam Gigandet and Lily Collins find love as star-crossed lovers fighting to stay alive in this post-apocalyptic world.Director Scott Stewart and his design team have created a Blade Runner meets Road Warrior feel and while the Priest story and visuals are promising, unfortunately the film does not deliver. There are gaping holes in the plot and at times, Priest drags when it should be pedal to the medal. The action sequences are impressively shot, but like the rest of the film, slightly miss the mark.

Justin Theroux "adores" Wanderlust co-star Jennifer Aniston

Justin Theroux and Malin Akerman reveal their favorite moments on the set of Wanderlust -- namely, working with Justin’s girlfriend, Jennifer Aniston.

Though they met at least five years prior, it was while filming the romantic comedy Wanderlust that Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux really hit it off.

"I've known Jen for so long," Justin told SheKnows recently. "I adore her. We had such a great time."

Despite his long hair and overgrown beard, Justin still managed to impress Aniston.

"When you have a beard like this, and the confidence to grow a beard like this, it demands respect," Justin joked about his character's scruffy look. "You have to respect the facial hair."

But the real Justin is a far cry from the arrogant, pot-smoking alpha male he plays in the movie. From shaving off the facial hair to sporting a slick suit, the Theroux we met was nothing like his character.

Wanderlust movie cast with Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux

"I have zero in common with my character," said Justin. "I am the opposite. He's such a narcissist. It's like a guy who doesn't listen to anybody but himself. I'm much more regimented. I like structure in my life. I like tight clothing; I don't like to feel loose and baggy. I actually like shaving in the morning."

To vouch for that even further, he told us that drugs are definitely not his thing.

"I can't smoke pot to save my life," Justin laughed. "I'm a terrible pot smoker."

Though the lifestyle of the movie wasn't exactly their cup of tea, co-star Malin Akerman agreed that it was a blast playing hippies in Wanderlust.

Malin Akerman in the 2012 Wanderlust movie

"There's a whole alternate cut to this movie that's just scenes of us laughing," she told SheKnows. "The one thing I feel was the biggest challenge in this film was trying not to laugh. I wasn't even focused on acting. I was just trying not to laugh."

VIDEO: Jennifer Aniston and Paul Rudd relive "gross"Wanderlust moments >>

And the fun didn't end on set: Malin told us the whole cast took the party back to Paul Rudd's when filming was over.

"We did karaoke nights at Paul Rudd's," she revealed. "Ken Marino does a great Tracey Chapman."

Oh, what we would give to be a fly on that wall!

Malin Akerman talks "tonguiest kiss" with Tom Cruise

Actress Malin Akerman has a hot body -- and she knows it! She's not the typical actress that only credits her body to good genes: She works for it! Find out her tips -- and what it was like to make out with Tom Cruise.

Malin Akerman talks Tom Cruise in ShapeIt's safe to say that Malin Akerman is on the express train to superstardom. The 34-year-old Swedish actress is starring in a ton of movies this year, including the film adaptation of the hit Broadway musical Rock of Ages. She's a great actress and all, but we're more interested in how she keeps that rockin' bod.

Luckily, she's telling us how in the new issue of Shape.

"I'm not going to lie: I was born with good genes [her mother was also a model]. But when I overindulge, I can get a paunch in my belly. And I've always wished I had more beef in my booty," she told the magazine However, she keeps it real when it comes to nutrition and exercise.

"I've never been on a fad diet or tried one of those crazy cleanses. I think they just mess up your system. I believe in eating as nutritiously as I can all the time -- not just before I'm putting on a swimsuit. My mother raised me on fresh rather than processed foods, and that's how I eat on a regular basis," she said, adding that she does splurge as much as anyone else. "I have my splurges. I can't live without chocolate. Though I barely consider it an indulgence because it's good for you. I also love a thick steak and French fries. I try not to eat them more than once a week, but if they somehow land on the table in front of me, I won't hold back. You've got to allow yourself the things you enjoy or you'll just be miserable."

As for exercise, Akerman said she's a yoga enthusiast who'd rather stay close to home instead of at a sweaty gym.

"I prefer exercising in or near my home. I usually start my day doing some yoga poses and then go for a 45-minute hike in the park nearby. It's hard to be consistent because of my schedule. There are days I only have time to do a few sets of crunches and push-ups in my living room or 10 minutes of jumping jacks. But no matter what, I try to do something each day."

Akerman also gets the distinct pleasure of kissing Tom Cruise's aging rocker character in Rock of Ages. Thandie Newton famously complained of kissing Cruise when they filmed the first Mission: Impossible sequel, but Akerman gives him nothing but praise for his tonguing skills.

"The script called for the tonguiest tongue kiss of all time. And we were like, 'Let's go for it.' It was hilarious," she joked. "Working with Tom was a dream come true. I can die happy now."

Malin Akerman let Tom Cruise sing into her butt

The sexy comedic actress Malin Akerman plays the love interest to a very buff Tom Cruise in the latest Broadway musical to hit the big screen, Rock of Ages.

Rock of Ages

“Serenading me with a guitar, maybe, but singing into my butt… ? No, I never thought that would happen,” actress Malin Akerman says of straddling a pool table in a white bra and panties and having Mission Impossible himself sing into her booty. But hey, it’s Hollywood. And anything is possible when you’re working with Tom Cruise, right?

This comedic love scene where Akerman plays a buttoned-up journalist and Cruise plays rock legend Stacee Jaxx, takes place in the new musical Rock of Ages. Akerman admitted she wasn’t sure exactly what she would be doing when she signed up for the part. But as long as Cruise was game, the 34-year-old actress told SheKnows during a press interview, she was, too.

Tom Cruise becomes aging rocker with tattoo>>

So, how did they get on a pool table with her booty in the air? They started with lots of tongue.

French kissing Tom Cruise

Malin AkermanIn keeping with the spirit of musicals, Akerman and Cruise did a number of rehearsals to make sure their love scene was choreographed just right. They started with the kissing. “The tongue in the ear singing thing was invented during the rehearsals,” Akerman says. “I think any time something comes about that we find funny… it’s sort of a sign that I think the audience is going to love it, too.”

Malin Akerman talks "tonguiest kiss" with Tom Cruise >>

“I don’t know if it’s sexy or gross,” she said of the scene where they do an elaborate tongue dance, their faces pressed together. It’s quite the number. The director, Adam Shankman, apparently told them to make it as outrageous as possible. “If you have to lick her eyeballs, I don’t care,” Akerman says Shankman told her. “Just go crazy.”

When one reporter asks if Akerman had to go to a tongue acting coach, she says, absolutely not. “I’m Swedish,” she boasts. “I watch dogs, I know what they do…” she laughs, but immediately gets a little pink. “It’s embarrassing,” she says. “That was such a crazy scene.”

50 shades of embarrassment

But Akerman wouldn’t have traded it for the world. The chance to work with one of the biggest movie stars in Hollywood is one she couldn't pass up, no matter how much time she spent with her butt in the air.

“I was amazed at his sense of humor and how far he wanted to go,” she says of working with Cruise. “That’s why he is who he is, that’s why he’s had such a long career, because he’s game. He’s game for anything.”

“Every time we called cut, it was 50 shades of red…," she says, "laughing our asses off.” Literally, or underpants, at least. “Because it’s such a weird moment when you have to do that kind of thing. There is no music on, it’s completely silent on set and all these extras are watching and all you can hear are tongues,” she says.

Rock of Ages movie review: sex, laughs and rock 'n' roll

$

Set in 1987, this movie is a rock-and-roll fairy tale about a sweet little girl with big hair lost in a metal-band wonderland. Full of campy, over-the-top performances, Rock of Ages will have you singing in the movie theater -- I did!

ROA Tom Cruise

The film opens with Sherrie getting on a bus in the Midwest, headed for Hollywood. As she and the other passengers sing "Sister Christian," it becomes clear this movie plans to mine loads of fun from an era of MTV-created stars with ginormous hair, ripped jeans and silly choreography.

Once at the mythical Sunset Strip, Sherrie stands in front of the extinct dinosaur that was Tower Records and meets nice rocker Drew who gets her a job at hot metal club The Bourbon Room.

ROA Julianna Hough

Sinking in debts from unpaid taxes, the Bourbon Room’s owner Dennis Dupree bemoans his fate with loyal headbanger Lonny . With the help of music manager Paul Gill , they can save their club if only famed rocker Stacee Jaxx agrees to perform his farewell concert at the Bourbon.

But Dennis and Lonny have even bigger problems — the city’s mayor and his wife Patricia  plan to clean up the depraved Sunset Strip, starting with closing down the Bourbon Room.

There’s lots of silliness in Rock of Ages, like Stacee Jaxx’s leather-clad baboon and super-twisty tongue kissing, but the songs and the committed performances provide solid entertainment for the entire two hours. No small feat.

Julianne Hough transfers into the rock world beautifully. She’s no Joan Jett, but she loves rock-and-roll and manages to keep her grace and dignity despite sinking to pole-dancing status.

Alec Baldwin and Russell Brand make for strange bedfellows but this power couple steals the show. Their artful understanding of comedy makes for the most hilarious duet possibly ever put on film.

ROA Catherine Zeta-Jones

The uber-talented Catherine Zeta-Jones leads her crusading group of moms-against-satanic-rockers in a show-stopping "Hit Me with Your Best Shot" with choreography inspired by Michael Jackson’s "Beat It" music video and perhaps a little Baz Luhrmann thrown in.

Bottom line:  Rock of Ages brings the best of '80s rock to the big screen, never taking itself too seriously. You will love laughing and singing along to this fun, nostalgic musical. Enjoy!

Malin Akerman doubles up on the good news

After romancing Tom Cruise on the big screen in Rock of Ages this summer, Malin Akerman is taking a different turn on the small screen and in real life.

MalinAkermanBaby

There's a series of firsts on the horizon for Rock of Ages actress Malin Akerman. She will not only be starring in her first network TV series, but she has also announced her first baby is on the way.

A few days ago, Akerman was confirmed as lead in a new show called Trophy Wife. The show follows a former wild child who finds herself falling in love with a man who has two difficult ex-wives and three bratty kids. The series will air on ABC later next year.

While this is Akerman's first network series, she co-starred with Lisa Kudrow in The Comeback in 2005 on HBO, and she has spent two seasons on the comedy Children's Hospital on Adult Swim.

Today, Akerman also had some big personal news to announce. She and her husband, Roberto Zincone, are expecting their first child together. She met her husband while singing in the alternative rock band The Petalstones. While the band struggled to make it and eventually broke up in 2005, Akerman and Zincone, who was the band's drummer, sang in harmony on a personal level. They married in 2007 in Italy, even though many thought the pairing wouldn't last.

Having a family has always been a priority for the actress. The Couples Retreat star told Women's Health back in March 2009 that "I've always wanted a big table of kids. But we'll probably end up having two of our own and adopting one." No word on when Akerman is due, but it looks like she and Zincone are already on their way.

Akerman had an interesting way of describing her pregnancy symptoms and morning sickness.

“It’s kind of like when you are hungover... but it’s that kind of feeling where you want to eat everything greasy... so the diet is great. I love it!” she told E! News.

“It feels a little bit like that gut rot you get the next day where you’re just craving everything that will just soak up. But I don’t think the hamburgers will soak up my baby,” Akerman joked.

"It is fine, I’m not drinking so much coffee, but it’s fine,” she said.

Her character on the show, Carrie Matheson, won’t be pregnant so they have had to now use a body double to film some of her scenes.

“ doing unbelievably well with the pregnancy, although she's showing considerably now,” said her co-star, Damian Lewis. "She's extremely apologetic about the timing — which, obviously, isn't ideal — but as we all know, you don't time these things, do you?"

Friday's Fashion Obessions: Emma Watson and Malin Akerman

Emma Watson and Malin Akerman's beautiful celebrity styles made us do a double take this week! We're telling you why in this week's installment of Friday’s Fashion Obsessions.

Emma Watson

Emma Watson

Is it just me or is this quite possibly one of the cutest evening looks in history? Emma Watson showed up to last week's London screening of her new film, The Perks of Being A Wallflower, looking classic, classy and cute all at once. But would you expect any less from Dior Haute Couture?

Let's break down the look, shall we? I'm kind of in love with the cocktail mini/pants combo, aren't you? It's cold in London, so it's quite practical. But this look is so much more than practical -- it's breathtaking. The soft velvet material has a subtle pop of glimmery glamour and hugs Emma in all the right spots.

The final verdict? Don't be surprised if you see this trend popping up everywhere this winter. Wearing a cute cocktail mini over leggings or slim pants gives you the best of both worlds and prevents you from freezing your ass off. Enough said.

Malin Akerman

Malin Akerman

We hear congratulations are in order, Malin! The actress just announced her first pregnancy and she's already acting like one stylish mom to be. This weekend, Malin showed up to the 2012 Environmental Media Awards in California and was simply glowing in her Alexx Jae & Milk dress.

Malin's only in the early stages of pregnancy, but I have a feeling, based on this outfit, that she'll be sporting some serious fashions that flaunt her curves. I'm loving the on trend, deep color of this dress and those adorable sleeves, aren't you?

The final verdict? The key to this look is the accessories! Malin spiced up a somewhat normal silhouette with some edgy pieces -- look at those shoes! -- for a look that really stuck with me.

“This is me and Maryam of @MyMarrakesh who took me shopping in marrakesh and showed me all this amazing stuff,” she tweeted, with a photo of her standing in a gray tunic top showing off her growing belly.

Allen and her husband Sam Cooper are already parents to 11-month-old daughter Ethel Mary.

In addition to working on growing a baby, she is also working on new music! ”It’s great to work at my own pace, with no commitments other than to make music,” she said. ”I'm excited to be heading back into the studio.”

Sofia Vergara pregnant on Modern Family

Sofia Vergara

OK, so Sofia Vergara is not actually pregnant in real life, but her character Gloria Delgado-Pritchett on Modern Family sure is! The actress was spotted on set looking very chic with her faux baby bump and wearing A Pea in the Pod Houndstooth Faux Wrap Maternity Dress .

Vergara, 40, told Katie Couric that she is actually not looking forward to filming the show once her character has a baby. ”It’s going to change for me, because then, actually my hours of shooting with Ed and Rico [Rodriguez], they’re very fast, because we come prepared,” Vergara said. ”We do it fast; Ed is very professional, and Rico too, he’s like an adult. And now, with a baby, it’s going to be double because they cry, and then, ’Bring the other one, bring the new one, the diaper’ — so we’re dreading it.”

What about a baby in real life? Vergara already has a 22-year-old son, but just got engaged so perhaps another child is in her future?

“Maybe next year I could think about it,” she told Katie.

Pregnant Kate Middleton baby bump

Kate Middleton

Kate Middleton has a royal bun in the oven! The Duchess is very early in her pregnancy, with a Palace rep saying she had not yet reached the 12-week mark.

Middleton was spotted here on November 28 visiting Peterborough City Hospital — and, even though she is pregnant in this photo, is obviously not showing yet. The slender Duchess will probably not start showing until she is well in her second trimester.

When do most women start to show?>>

Although she looks like she is feeling well here, Middleton is currently hospitalized for acute morning sickness called hyperemesis gravidarum and the father-to-be, Prince William, has been at her side supporting her.

Jessica Simpson

Jessica Simpson was spotted out for the first time since news broke that she is pregnant with her second child — less than a year after giving birth to her daughter Maxwell.

The 33-year-old wore a loose fitting gray sweater paired with a blazer and black leggings.

“It definitely wasn’t planned. But yes, Jessica is pregnant again,” a source told Us Weekly.

It sounds like we should soon be seeing Simpson wearing her own line of maternity clothes that she just launched at Destination Maternity. In the meantime, she probably isn’t quite ready for maternity clothes after losing 70 pounds of baby weight.

Pregnant and naked Marisa Miller

Marisa Miller

Victoria’s Secret model Marisa Miller bared all as she posed nude in Allure magazine. The 33-year-old is pregnant with her first child with hubby Griffin Guess.

“I always felt, even before I got pregnant, that it’s better to accentuate your curves,” she told the magazine. “A lot of women try to tuck their butt in or kind of slouch because they’re trying to hide. Obviously, you can’t suck it in, but it’s important to really show off the belly. For some reason, for me, from the side it looks the biggest, so that’s what I tried to do.”

She said she didn’t color her hair during the first trimester, and took extra precautions when she finally got a few highlights. “My color grew out naturally and eventually looked sort of ombre. Once I got into my second trimester, I asked my stylist about a few small highlights around the face, just to break up the color a bit. We used organic dye, and to make sure I didn’t inhale anything, we even did it outside,” she said.
